Annual Service in York Minster to mark the beginning of the Legal Year

Sunday, 13th October 2013 at 11.30 a.m.

The Dean and Chapter of York have arranged with the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire that the Annual Service at the Minster will take place at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday 13th October 2013.

Special arrangements are being made for High Court Judges, Circuit Judges, District Judges, Queen’s Counsel, and other members of the Bar attending in robes. They are asked to let me know in the event of their wishing to attend, and full details will then be issued.  The Preacher this year will be Rt Rev James Jones, the recently retired Bishop of Liverpool, and the collection will be donated equally between York Minster and the Police Treatment Centre, Harrogate.

Seats will be reserved in the congregation for spouses, families and guests of those attending in robes and for all others who apply for tickets before 20th September 2013. Admission tickets will be sent out in the second half of September.

Applications giving the applicant’s name ( and also the address to which the tickets should be sent) and should state the number of seats required and, if the applicant is concerned with the administration of the law, the position which he or she holds (e.g. Circuit Judge, District Judge (Civil), District Judge (Magistrates Courts), Queen’s Counsel, Junior Counsel, Coroner, Justice of the Peace, President or Secretary of a Local Law Society, Solicitor, Probation Service, Governor of H M Prison, etc)

Those attending are asked to bear in mind the possibility of the Minster not being heated and to bring warm clothing, unless the weather is warm for the time of year.
