The BSB Handbook requires that as of July 2014 all members of Chambers involved in recruitment (be that of staff, tenants or pupils), undergo training in fair recruitment processes.

The training can be undertaken by attending a classroom course, viewing online webinar sessions, or by private study of the Bar Council's Fair Recruitment Guide.    However, the BSB encourages at least one pupillage panel member to attend a classroom course.  Please see pages 14-15 of this document for further guidance on the requirements -https://www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/media/1562168/bsb_equality_rules_handbook_corrected.pdf.

For those who wish to attend a classroom course, Simon Myerson QC will be running two seminars in Leeds, which will cover all 13 chapters of the Bar Council's Fair Recruitment Guide.  Part 1 will cover chapters 1-7 and Part 2 chapters 8-13 (to be run in early June).   The seminars will include practical exercises and will provide attendees with the necessary skills to undertake selection and recruitment in accordance with the Handbook.

Both seminars will be videoed and made available via the Circuit website as webinars (2 CPD will be available for each webinar).  For those who wish to undertake private study of the Bar Council Fair Recruitment Guide, it can be accessed via the following link http://www.barcouncil.org.uk/media/165213/recruitment_guidev22_18sept_merged_readonly.pdf

Please contact the Circuit office at admin@northeasterncircuit.co.uk if you wish to attend.
