This Interviewing Skills Seminar is for Barristers and Chambers Staff who are involved in any selection process in Chambers. 

These are fun sessions with mock interviews where the candidates are played by highly skilled professional actors.  They provide an opportunity for you to practice your interviewing skills so as to ensure that you are getting the best out of yourself, your panel and the candidate.

This training complies with the needs of the BSB’s Code of Conduct.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the workshop participants will be able to:

      Create a streamlined and effective recruitment and selection process

      Prepare and conduct a typical selection interview

      Use a range of questioning techniques to both fact-find and confirm facts

      Make objective decisions on a candidate’s ability to perform the key elements of a job


The programme will include presentations, discussions and skills practice.

      Introduction and ground rules

      Preparing for the interview – checking the quality of job descriptions and personal specifications currently in use and deciding how they can be improved.  Deciding how the interviews will be carried out, the criteria you will be using and who will be interviewing.

      Conducting the interview – being professional by using a set of skills and behaviours that ensure you recruit ‘the best person for the job’.  Use of effective questioning techniques whilst acknowledging the legal framework and keeping accurate records.

      After the interview – contacting successful applicants and providing feedback to those not successful.
